Bridal wear, bouquets and accessories...
Working from my home studio in South East London, I am inspired by art, vintage fashion and nature and use this inspiration to create unique textiles pieces, bridal wear and accessories. I believe in working together with a client to create a unique garment or item that incorporates their ideas with my wealth of knowledge.
Make do and mend...
Working as a seamstress I am aware of how much fabric is wasted in the industry. I love to recycle and upcycle materials, fabrics and treasures and to breathe new life into garments and pieces that would otherwise eventually end up in landfill. My studio is a magpies nest filled to the rafters with assorted beads, fabric scraps, charity shop finds and other goodies just waiting for their new life.
Experience and qualifications...
I began sewing when I was a little girl around the age of seven. Inspired by my mother and grandmothers impressive dressmaking skills, I was always on the hunt for scraps of fabric to use for making dolls clothes.
I went on to study Textiles at GCSE and A.level, where I expanded my knowledge of the fashion industry and experimented with various techniques that I still use today. I had some time away from the subject whilst completing a Diploma in Foundation Studies for Higher Education in Lens Media at Exeter Colege. I then went on to study Design Photography at The University of Plymouth, during which I concentrated on the nude female form as a photographic subject and wrote about the history of fashion for my final year dissertation.
After completing my degree, I worked in numerous positions within the fashion and bridal industry, before taking the leap and becoming a self employed seamstress and textile artist in 2008.
In February 2013, I was comissioned to design and make a 1940's costume which was worn by Eva Jones in Edith Piaf The Concert, shown in London and Birmingham.
Alongside creating my own commissioned garments and pieces for individuals clients, I have worked with various companies including:
One Night Stand - a designer dress hire company based in Chelsea, London.
Heavenly Vintage Bride - a vintage bridal wear company in West London stocking beautiful dresses from the 1900's -1970's.
Ticklers London - a refreshing and modern brand of bow ties using the finest fabrics from around the world.
Bonjour Tonton - a unique language learning company starring Tonton the Tortoise and his wonderful bow ties.
Catherine Deane - beautiful bridal and evening gowns designed in the UK.
National Army Museum - an interesting museum for all ages based in Chelsea, London.
